Confessions of a shopaholic
I had to get my licence renewed today so that meant I couldn't stay home all day in my pyjamas. I bet you anything my new licence photo is gonna look as bad as all my other ID pics... oh well, if I had to be cursed with something I guess that's not so bad.
Of course since I was already out I decided to do a little bit of shopping... I mean the driver licence issuing place was right beside the Corelle factory store anyways. Don't ask me how but I walked out with $40 in new plates and I had already sworn not to buy anything more for my apartment (and didn't I tell myself to curb my spending yesterday?) Oh well.
Then somehow I ended up at Staples and then I drove to Chapters for a coffee frappucino from Starbucks because the sunny weather called for it... and of course since I was already there I thought it wouldn't hurt to just look at the books... and then quite innocently I found one of books I've been meaning to buy for a couple of weeks now: Why Do Men Have Nipples? Hundreds of Questions You'd Only Ask a Doctor After Your Third Martini. This book is a riot - it answers the questions we always ask ourselves:
- What causes an ice cream headache?
- Is it bad to crack your knuckles?
- Can you lose a contact lense in the back of your head?
- What are eye boogers?
- What are those little half moons in your nails?
- Why do I have to go to the bathroom immediately after a cup of coffee?
- Why does asparagus make my pee smell?
- Is there really a medication that acts as a truth serum?
- Are canker sores contagious? (Ha! I answered this!)
- Why are you hungry an hour after eating Chinese food?
After milling around Chapters for an hour I decided to visit Pier 1 Imports and HMV after that... let's just say the whole day was like a chapter straight out of Confessions of a Shopaholic. I'm so bad! But in my defence I didn't spend any money on clothes.

Yesterday my TV watching also extended into the evening (I know, I'm becoming quite pathetic, being a couch potato and posting on my blog everyday!) Much to my surprise a bunch of scantily clad girls came on the Teen Choice Awards singing some awful song that goes like this: "Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me? Don't you wish your girlfriend was freak like me?" Like seriously how did this song ever get recorded? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm always the first to say that when two people don't belong together they shouldn't be together, but that song is just straight out home-wrecker stylez. It just doesn't make any sense to me but I bet you anything in some kind of sick twisted irony I'll end up liking this song... such is life.
Today's most highly recommended medical book (besides the Men with Nipples one): I recently purchased the Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia although most medical students don't buy this book until clerkship. I think it's silly that a lot of us are told to wait until clerkship to purchase such books because they're so useful.. and if I can get four years out of a book instead of two that makes me feel so much better for shelling out the big bucks for them. Anyways, this book is awesome- you can look up any drug imaginable and everything is well organized - most clerks swear by this book.

Wow. Maybe the worst thing about relocating to a new city and country was missing out on 2 weeks worth of dynamic bettyblogs... So many comments, where to begin?
- First of all, I'm going to stand up for all the Harry Potter fans out there. Especially those of us over the age of 13. The most recent addition to the series was amazingly addictive. I couldn't put it down for the weekend. I won't defend the movies, although they're not bad. I will say that the actress who plays Hermione is going to be pretty hot someday though. You know, when she turns 18. Wait, am I talking out loud here?
- I don't mean to be difficult, but I didn't really care for the new Charlie movie that much either. Some of it was pretty beautifully shot, but I just found the whole thing kind of weird and plasticky. But maybe I'm still traumatized from seeing the original in theatres when I was 4 or 5 and absolutely FREAKING OUT when the girl turned into a blueberry. Come on, that's some scary, scary stuff.
- Betty waiting in line for a WHOLE HOUR? Holy crap. I've seen her start to spaz out at the PROSPECT of waiting in line. So much so that the manager had to come out and settle the situation... ;)
- Can you give me credit for introducing the term "Timmy Ho's" to your lexicon? I feel like this is noteworthy.
- Glad to hear that you're nice and relaxed nowadays. I hope you don't stress out too much about your decisions, after all, you still have a couple of years to figure out what turns you on. Don't you get lots of electives in different rotations? I'm sure when the time comes, you'll know what you like. Besides sexy form-fitting designer scrubs. If you ever feel like doing one at UPMC in Pittsburgh, I've got a nice futon with your name on it...
- If you're not feeling the spiritual sisterhood of Oprah's Book Club, here's Paul's first ever Book Club recommendation: Lonesome Dove, available here.

I know I was never one for the Western Genre, but this is too good not to read.
Alright, this was long enough to be my own blog entry, so I will end it here.

That's hilarious Paul, I had no idea I had made such a big fuss about lining up. You'll have to remind me of that one!
I'll definitely give "Lonesome Dove" a chance even though I'm not one for Westerns... although that guy on "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" was kind of hot. Wait - what am I saying? It's almost as disturbing as your comment about Hermione. Tsk tsk, for shame, for shame.
I'm glad P-burgh (or da 'Burgh or Pittsburgh or whatever name I can grace your new town) is treating you well and you've got your Internet working - 'cuz after all, a lot can happen in two weeks! I hope you're not missing Timmy Ho's too much or anything, because of course Timmy Ho's is your baby (I give you due credit for that!) Maybe I can send you a box of Timmy Ho's stuff and you can feel all Canadian again like in those commercials on TV and you can teach your new American friends a thing or two about what it means to be a true Canadian. Or maybe I should send you a box of Charmin or whatever brand of toilet paper you like so you can hide them from your non-existent roommates. Or maybe I should just stop watching crap on TV...
Peace out! It's good to hear from you and I await your next pseudo-blog.
