Moving is a b*tch

Argh! My exams ended last Wednesday but I haven't had much down time since then. It's been moving central down here in K-town, which has gone something like this:

Betty: Damn. Why do I have so much crap?!??!

Mike (he came down to celebrate end of exams with me and unfortunately for him, to also become my moving slaveboy): You don't. Let's just clear your shelf, we'll be done in no time.

I put five books in a box. It's already filled up.

Betty: Damn! I'm so sick and tired of this.

I sit on my futon and sulk for an hour.

Mike: What did I get myself into?

Seriously though, I've been telling everyone how much I regret renting a one-bedroom apartment all to myself. I've accunmulated too much crap and I'm a medical student and that means I'm poor. What was I thinking? I guess I was all too caught up in moving away from home for the first time, having my first ever apartment and living it up. Well I've learned the hard way that I should have just been frugal from the very beginning. Then I wouldn't have accumulated so much debt (and crap)! However, I'd like to think though that my apartment-slash-boudoir has been integral in building the relationship Mike and I have now. He says it's been his home-away-from-home for the past two years. So while I'm glad to be moving to a place I can better afford, I'll be slightly sad. It's too bad I didn't remember to take a few pictures before I tore the place apart. It's a giant mess, like a hurricane came through and bit everyone on the arse. (I don't know the connection between the two but I'm trying to convey how much moving sucks.)

I came home for the weekend (thank goodness) and it's been wonderful. I don't have to stare at everything that's not in a box yet and I've been really well fed. I guess this has been my "down time" since exams. It's unfortunate though that I don't feel like I can fully prepare for Kenya until I'm fully moved, which is this Saturday. I can't wait. I feel like only one anvil (exams) has been removed off my shoulders and there are still two more left (moving and getting ready for Kenya). I really can't complain about the latter though because it has been exciting times! Ever since there was an article published about the group traveling to Kenya in the Queen's Gazette, we've had many more donations come in - a video camera, lots of needed drugs and a fetal heart rate monitor!! How exciting!!

As well, even though my mind's been overwhelmed with moving thoughts and trying to fish as many boxes as I can out of the deep bowels of my basement, I managed to hit the mall today to find some cool things for the Kenya trip, including $6.00 flip flops at Old Navy! I also bought a basketball, soccerball and pump for the kids at the local school with my friend Sean Law's generous donation! Also, check out these cool (and cheap!) knick knacks I picked up at Camp Connection:

Collapsible tumblers!! That is just too cool. Now I just need to find me some disposable underwear...

Hey Betty TUONG,

Don't even mention it! I'm sure that the kids in Kenya could use the donation more than I need it. I hope you have a safe and pleasant trip and don't forget to bring some chinese Tiger Balm!
