Happy Thanksgiving!

I couldn't wait for this week to end so that I could bask in the non-school Monday that would await me. However, I had to do some horrifying things these past few days that have not been fun... such as going to the bank to get EIGHT HUNDRED AND TEN DOLLARS in money orders to apply for my electives!! Highway robbery! Blasphemy! Horror of all horrors! That money could have went towards a new MacBook for goodness's sake, or seven-and-a-half to eight pairs of shoes, or 800 bags of chips to feed the greedy hands of this generation's Halloween trick-or-treaters. I am so sad.

But then I perked up and the sun started to shine when my roommate announced that Mr. Bento has a mate called Ms. Bento, who is half the size (two tupperware containers) and she is lilac in colour. How very nice and worthy of spending your line of credit money on.

The happiness wasn't to last however, because on Friday clinical skills rolled around and instead of spending time in the internal medicine wards as our $14, 500 curriculum had guaranteed us, we all got surgical patients instead. That's all fine by me because assessing surgical patients is usually nice and fast and cut and dry (hence why I like surgery!) but somebody up there had it in for me because I got a urology patient. That's all fine until you have to ask a 65-year-old man if he's sexually satisfied and you realize you have to do the full urological exam if you know what I'm saying... I've only done it once! I've only done the digital rectal exam once!! Aaahhhhhhhhh. Since I figured the patient was post-op, that I was sent in the room because no other internal medicine patient wanted anything to do with a medical student, there were no gloves anywhere to be seen (I think there could have been some by the door but that's irrelevant) and my actual real tutor was off in Italy and my replacement tutor probably wouldn't care if I did an incomplete physical, I inspected the parts I needed to and I deferred the DRE.

I was so happy to run home after that but I have been haunted all weekend... when my roommate's fiance was stuffing the turkey per rectum I just had to wince.

Anyways we had an amazing turkey dinner, there was a lovely selection of wine and Mike's sweet potato dish with glazed pecans was a hit.

It doesn't end here, however, did I mention I start clerkship with THREE weeks of urology!?!?!? Aaaaahhhhhhhh.

In my medical opinion, the best way to get over a traumatic medical experience: Go out and buy the new digitally enhanced version of the Little Mermaid, make your boyfriend watch it and sing such classic hits as "Under the Sea", "Part of Your World" and "Kiss the Girl". (This one's for you, Rose).
