Vive le dindon

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, or for those who don't celebrate, happy long weekend! Wow, I can't tell you how good it is to be home after an excruciatingly long one-and-a-half month absence. I am thankful for so many things:

1) No cops on the 401 on Friday between the hours of 9:30 and 11:30 AM so that I could make it home in two hours
2) My mom's cooking - I am taking sooooo much food back, I am so happy
3) My sister's cooking - talk about an amazing Thanksgiving spread, complete with butterball turkey, gravy, rice, potatoes and spring rolls for the Asian parents! I am also recieving a lot of delicious leftovers from this dinner, mwah ha ha.
4) My little sister - I have to list her or I shall face her wrath. Despite the fact that I picked her up from school on Friday, took her to the dentist and crafts store on Saturday and I took her to a movie last night, she still "hates" me because I didn't want to listen to a Coldplay song at 1 AM in the morning when I wanted to sleep. Anyways, we watched Flightplan yesterday which was actually quite good! I guess I have to admit though that Rose does deserve to be on this list because her impression of Morgan Freeman narrating the March of the Penguins is so freaking funny. ("Hello, I'm Morgan Freeman. And I'm not always inside narrating hundreds of movies, I'm also outside gaining hundreds of liver spots.") Hahah! Don't get me wrong, I love Morgan Freeman.
5) I guess I have to list the rest of my family now so as not to offend anyone. I give props to my Dad, who is shipping me off with three new plants which I am bound to kill. He doesn't understand this and I feel really sorry for his plants. I also must mention Sammy, the cutest dog in the world who missed me sooooooo much that he had a little accident when I walked through the door.
6) I cannot forget the amazing friends in my life, who are so amazing that I was able to coordinate seeing all of them in one day. I went shopping with Sab (I'm also thankful that Yorkdale mall is minutes from my house), then I had dinner with Shayna and got to see her new place, and then I met up with Mercedes for clubbing downtown. It was awesome to catch up over Bellinis, Dominican cigarillos and great house music. Also, my friend Tommy who's visiting from BC to do an elective at Sick Kids was able to join us. Like all naïve Vancouverites, he has fallen in love with Toronto.
7) Lastly, I have to be thankful for my cell phone that gets reception everywhere and lets me converse with le boyfriend on le long weekend who thought the word "dindon" never existed, because apparently Quebecers use the fancier "dinde" term instead. I'm no expert but I remember my primary school French: dindon = turkey! All semantics aside, thanks to the invention of the telephone we were able to feel like two stuffed turkeys together.

Alas, today I must depart my home sweet home and return to K-town, where the turkeys are not as plentiful and school work awaits.

Today's newly discovered medical fact: The Kingston General Hospital is the highest performing teaching hospital in Ontario. I can attest to this and I'm glad I go to Queen's instead of a certain medical school in a certain big city (starts with T and ends in O) which I love to live in but wouldn't want to study in.

Vive la dinde!!!

So I've decided I should put an end to the whole "turkey" debate once and for all. Betty you're French teachers were absolutely right when they taught you the word for turkey is dindon. However it's come to my attention that every time we think we're eating a "turkey" we're actually eating a hen, which of course is dinde. It's much like poulet and coq (chicken and rooster). So there lies the confusion. Coming from Quebec, one would think I would have been able to make the distinction earlier on. No such luck heheh.

And for anyone who is that interested, a young turkey is a dindonneau.

Lol, I was just being sarcastic... if it makes you feel better, being around you and your nerdiness makes me feel just like when I finish a turkey dinner, all hopped up on tryptophan.

Eat turkey, be happy
